I know its an odd question “Should you user test a logo?” but it’s a good question and the answer is yes. But wait I hear you asking what the heck is a User test? I’m sorry its a very geeky concept but in a nutshell we user test all the time and it doesn’t have to be high tec to be effective.
So your logo has to not only appeal to you but far more importantly it must appeal to your clients right? of course you say but how can I do that it sounds complex. But to be honest its really very easy theses days you can use social media or if your not that technical do it in your place of business, here’s an example.
Recently I was contracted by the fair play cafe in Gateshead (Newcastle Australia) to redesign their logo. As usual with my process i produced a few pages worth of ideas based on some information they provided me. I suggested to the client they print them out and stick them up on a wall but they did better than that and the results surprised me.
They printed out all the designs and let the kids who visit the center vote on which one they liked best. By doing this they give there clients or users a feeling of owner ship and participation and ended up with a logo that really did appeal to their clients .
the resulting logo or winner was this design I’m rather pleased with it. Its colorful but playful .
